Coward New World (Genre: Society)

Ever since the World War II ended and the new world started taking shape, many unwanted and quite negative socio-cultural developments started taking place in the West which are now transferring to Asia and other parts of the world, courtesy the media, primarily.

The new way of living that is being promoted, seen in most of West, and now throughout the world includes social prostitution in place of marriage, lack of respect and care for elders in the family and society, shortage of time for youngsters and consequent lack of interest in their grooming, compromising civic values for convenience, being materialistic, backstabbing fellow beings without regard to human relationships, having vices like drugs, liquor, meat, gambling, pornography and so on, to put it crisply.

This is the coward new world that we live in and it has been continuously taking shape and is so-named because it shows disrespect to all religions, all social norms of existence by making the man turn against nature and thereby giving rise to resentment and chaos. The coward new world is thus full of resources but lacks a heart and is busy making people adhere to heartless value systems and socio-cultural ethos, centered around sexism, racism and consumerism. The situation is actually clear in big cities where most people are cold and impersonal besides also being snobbish in many cases. This is, in reality, the coward new world in action for you.

This is being promoted by the media and government of most developed countries for crass consumerism thereby making the societies around the world, corrupt and devoid of reason. They are able to do this because they not only have the money to carry out this exercise and the political clout but because they have a vested interest in promoting Westernization as a means of developing the much-needed market base for their companies and culturally imposing their value systems howsoever distorted and unwanted they may be for non-Western cultures, particularly the Asian countries.

Imperialism actually never ended. It just changed its form. From military to political and corporate domination that is led by the US-UK nexus to weaken the third world countries so that they are crippled and remain permanent customers for the businesses of the West. This nexus has twin objectives of keeping the English hegemony alive and kicking, thereby ruling the minds of people through the tools it employs using the media and also monetarily stifling the countries so that they remain engulfed in a non-ending the vicious circle of poverty. It would do good to remember that the poverty and chaos in most of the world is directly a result of the sucking away of resources from these countries during the era of imperialism that lasted for almost three hundred years.

As Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the US, said to the nation's people, about two hundred years ago, that God was helping the White man and therefore it was his duty to be righteous and humble, it is only correct that the West changes its dictatorial stance in shaping people's lives and helps solve the crisis, the third world faces. It may sound far-fetched and even utopian to some, but my suggestion to all the former imperial powers is to come forward and draw a plan to help the countries they each wrongly exploited in the era gone by, as different from what the IMF and World Bank do, since it is both needed and justified.

This coward new world is selfish, racist, wrongly defines "Modernism," mocks the cultural values and beliefs of non-Western people and tells its people that sex is fun and not sacred, that having children is not necessary, that you can sleep with anyone you like and so on. Who and why has this philosophy been drafted into the world which is so religiously championed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year? The coward new world does not allow the immigrants to rise as much as they can, because of preconceived notions it carries and the lack of trust it has in their abilities. The coward new world is responsible for all the poverty and illiteracy that exists in the third world because it is not serious in eradicating the same, from the face of Earth.

If this new world is really brave why does it oppress its own people? Only a cowardly attitude is biased and distorted. In my opinion, it should be the duty for each of us to make the world we live in, really brave by making it more fulfilling and rewarding for all and it is then alone, that we will fully justify our existence as that of a civilized and humane race.
